Flickr, the popular photo-sharing site, was created by a weirdo named Stewart Butterfield and his very hot wife, Caterina Fake. In 2005(ish) Yahoo stepped in to buy them, resulting in a pretty solid payday for all involved. However, it never seemed to be a good fit for the cantankerous Butterfield, often said to be chafing at the restrictions of working for a major company. We all know the feeling...
In June 2008, Butterfield finally resigned, not to long after his wife left. And his letter, printed above is a doozy. Tin smithing? ACE!
The Don returns from a week without Web
Hey Team,
My PC blew up last week...took a while to get it fixed. Now I'm back on Bored.
Congrats to GroverDog and publius for kicking all kinds of tail on the Bored over the past week. Check out some of their recent articles and videos. Welcome to all new Exec members, as well!
We had a few sites link to Exec last Friday, sending over a solid 1000 readers in just a few days. Very exciting stuff. The more funny stuff people post on the site, the more likely someone is to link over to us.
Damian and I will keep posting up Stock Shots and promoting stuff you post to the front page. I've got a long list of features I'd like to add to the site that's been staring at me for the last week and will try to get to a few of them as soon as possible.
But it's good to be back. Keep it coming with the funny!
If you've got any suggestions for Damian and I, post em here. One thing we've been discussing is whether or not to open up commenting to visitors. I'm leaning toward "yes" for the time being. Thoughts?
